Overview

The new Form 941 released for Q1 2021, including all the COVID-19 credits was a huge challenge to employers, but deadlines with the IRS remained the same. Some employers filled it out to make it up to the deadline, only to realize that they did it incorrectly. Now employers ask how to fix these mistakes.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has introduced Form 941X, through which you can correct the errors in your Form 941. For instance, if you made a mistake in Form 941 (Quarter 1), you are supposed to file its correction form before the deadline of Quarter 2. Here the question arises whether you can fix errors in the Form 941 you filled out in the year 2020. Though Form 941 resembles Form 941X to a great extent, it is important to know how it works to avoid future errors.

To expand on this complexity due to the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, which was signed into law, more employers are finding themselves needing to complete 941X for 2020 and 2021 retros.

Join Clatid this June to review the new Form 941X and how you should properly complete it. Learn how and when you can correct the administrative and federal withholding errors.
